Welcome to English Speaking Course Lesson 10 by Structures. This lesson provides examples to help you improve your English. In this Lesson, we are going to learn 3 Basic English Speaking Structures. The first one is ”It’s no use + (verb + ing)”, the second is ”If I were you, I would + (verb) and the third last If I were you, I would have + (V3). We’ll start the English Speaking Course Lesson 10 by Structures

It’s no use + (verb + ing)

Nothing will be gained by doing something. When you want to say something like that in English. then you will use this structure. For example, It’s no use cleaning up.

Structure:
“It’s no use + gerund (verb-ing).”

  • It’s no use complaining.
  • It’s no use crying.
  • It’s no use repenting.
  • It’s no use coming here.
  • It’s no use talking to you.
  • It’s no use sporting then.
  • It’s no use separating them.
  • It’s no use apologizing.
  • It’s no use attempting to please him.
  • It’s no use checking on it yet.

If I were you, I would + (verb):

You will use this structure to say in English what you would do if you were someone else. This structure is used for the present. For example, If I were you, I would enjoy the party.

Structure:
“If + (I) + were + (you/he/she/they) + would + first form of the verb.”

  • If I were you, I would enjoy my vacation.
  • If I were you, I would do it.
  • If I were you, I would do it at once.
  • If I were you, I would help him.
  • If I were you, I would answer the question.
  • If I were you, I would do that job.
  • If I were you, I would talk to that man.
  • If I were you, I would believe me either.
  • If I were you, I would get in there right now.
  • If I were you, I would just get the hell out of here.

If I were you, I would have + (V3)

This structure is used for what would you do if you were someone else. and use these structures for the past. For example, If I were you, I would have done my homework.

Structure:
“If + (I) + were + (you/he/she/they) + would have + past participle (V3).”

  • If I were you, I would have done the same.
  • If I were you, I would have explained what happened.
  • If I were you, I would have stayed home.
  • If I were you, I would have helped him.
  • If I were you, I would have bought that car.
  • If I were you, I would have left that job.
  • If I were you, I would have answered the question
  • If I were you, I would have explained what happened.
  • If I were you, I would have continued working until it was done.
